A Study of the Culture of Trichomonas Vaginalis in Prostatitis


Abstract
In efforts to make an accurate diagnosis of prostatitis, a clinical study was made on 82 patients with prostatism in won ju christian hospital.
An emphasis was made to see the efficacy of culture of Trichomonas vaginalis.
The results obtained were as followed:
1. 51 cases (62%) of patient who complain symptoms originated from prostate were diagnosed as prostatitis.
2. Overall symptoms were similar in both prostatitis and prostatodynia but more urethral discomfort and urethral discharge were observed in prostatitis whereas more irritable voiding symptom and perineal discomfort were observed in prostatodynia.
3. In 31 cases (74%) of prostatitis, past history of urethritis were identified and mean pH of prostatic juice is 8. 1 and the Growth of Trichomonas vaginalis is decreased as pH of media is elevated.
4. One case of Trichomonas vaginalis was identified by wet smear whereas none was identified by culture in T.P.S-1 media.
5. The growth of Trichomonas vaginalis is decreased as pH of media is elevated and prostatic juice was alkaline.
So we should control the pH of prostatic juice in culture of Trichomonas vaginalis.
